Matteo Lippi

He is known as the bohemian Rodolfo – and Violettas great love Alfredo. Autumn 2020 Matteo Lippi will fight against Macbeth, in the role debut as Macduff in Bergen.

Tenor Matteo Lippi was born in Genoa and studied at the CUBEC-Accademia di Belcanto in Modena. In 2013 he won the Toti dal Monte competition and debuted as Rodolfo in La bohème in the theaters of Treviso, Ferrara, Jesi and Fermo. In the following year he was invited to sing Rodolfo at La Fenice in Venice as well as at the Bolshoi, and since then he has been a regular guest at both theatres.

As Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata he made his debut in 2018 at La Fenice, a role that will bring him back in Venice for several seasons. The same year he also sang Alfredo at The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo – and at the new Teatro del Maggio in Florence in the Verdi Popular Trilogy production conducted by Fabio Luisi.

Summer 2019 he was Gustavo (Riccardo) in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera at Holland Park Festival and autumn 2019 Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Glyndebourne Festival Tour. Before coming to Bergen this autumn (2020) he sang Alfredo at La Fenice in Venice as well as in Modena. Spring 2021 he will be Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.

The role debut as Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth marks his first visit at Bergen National Opera.
