Stian Økland

He started with jazz and prog-rock before he fell in love with opera. This autumn Stian Økland brings stories about Verdi’s witches and singers to schools in his home town Bergen.

Norwegian lyric tenor Stian Økland has his bachelor degree from the Grieg Academy in Bergen, and a master from Wales International Academy of Voice.

As a young operasinger he has performed in Norway, Germany, Scotland og Wales, and autumn 2019 he was a solist in Beethoven’s 9th symphony in Hong Kong.

Økland is also a guitar player, and has attended many festivals together with his bands: from Bergen International Festival, Nattjazz and Oslo Jazzfestival – to Inferno-festival and Hole in the sky. 2010 he established the prog-rock band Seven Impale, which has been internationally acclaimed for its two albums.

Økland has been a part of Bergen National Operas (BNO) chorus in many productions, and in 2014 he played one of the principal roles of in BNO’s production “All about my family” (Alt om min familie). Økland has also been a part of the professional vocal ensemble of Trondheim (Trondheim Vokalensemble) 2017-2020.
