Opera in schools

We believe that active participation is the best way to get to know opera. That's why we invite children and young people to take part in the creative process, together with our respected and experienced artists and educators.

Bergen National Opera annually engage several thousand children and young people in the Hordaland region. We want children and young people to experience that opera is a living art form that concerns them.

We believe that active participation is the best way to get to know opera. Therefore, we invite children and young people to participate in creative processes together with our opera teachers.

Through participation in BNO's projects, children and young people will gain increased knowledge and self-esteem. This way, the projects also contribute to the children's general development.

BNO also produces opera for and with young people. Most recently the youth opera All About My Family had its premiere in January 2014.

Members of the Bergen Boys Choir and Bergen Girls Choir participate in our operas. For instance, 18 members of the Bergen Boys Choir made a formidable effort in Britten's opera A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2015. Here you see them pictured with Puck, played by Miltos Yerolemou:
