Season programme 2025/26 now launched
Bergen Nationale Opera's programme for 2025/26 includes a Nobel Prize winner and one of the world's most popular operas!
The 2025/26 season begins with the French opera classic Pelléas and Mélisande, with music by Debussy and lyrics by the Nobel Prize-winning author and playwright Maeterlinck. BNO has worked for a number of years to cultivate Norwegian talents. Since 2021, this has been based on the Opera by the Fjord – Summer academy. In Pelléas and Mélisande, two of the leading roles will be filled by young, talented academists from this academy. Annika Beinnes follows up on her success in Die Fledermaus from last year, where she made her debut in the role of Imelda, and Sofia Nesje Enger makes her debut in the female title role in Pelléas and Mélisande.
In the spring of 2026, BNO presents a new production of one of the world's most popular operas, Giuseppe Verdi's La traviata. The role of Violetta is played by none other than soprano Kristina Mkhitaryan. In the 2025/26 season, the critically acclaimed soprano will also sing leading roles at The Royal Opera House in London, Teatro Real Madrid and The Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Also on the programme is BNO's sixth summer academy, Opera by the Fjord, and a brand new chamber opera titled Nattfolket. The chamber opera is part of a national collaboration between Bergen National Opera, Den Norske Opera & Ballett and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera and is performed in Bergen in collaboration with the Bergen International Festival. In addition, BNO continues its popular OperaPub.
Last but not least, BNO launches its "Alone Together" programme, a meeting point for those with a single ticket to the opera who wishes to share the experience with others. There will be an opportunity to meet both in advance and/or during the intermission, to discuss the performance or interact socially. You'll also be seated together. An opera host will also be part of the group.
