Mark Omvlee

Tenor Mark Omvlee is Monostatos in The Magic Flute here in Bergen autumn 2022.

The Dutch tenor Mark Omvlee graduated in 2003 from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, having studied for four years with Hein Meens. His studies also comprise of one year at the School for Drama & Contemporary Music Theatre and a year studying School Music, both in Amsterdam. Since his graduation he regularly receives coaching by Gemma Visser, Marcel Reijans and Miranda van Kralingen, among others.

Mark Omvlee was accepted at the Holland Opera, before his graduation. Here he sang various opera roles throughout the Netherlands, ranging from baroque to contemporary music. He debuted at the Opera Zuid in 2006 in Stravinsky’s Mavra. As member of the soloist ensemble of the Opera Zuid, he sang various tenor roles in Nozze di Figaro, Der Rosenkavalier, Barbe Bleue and Die Zauberflöte, among others.

In recent years he took part in the chamber opera production Owen Wingrave at Opera Trionfo. He also performed the role of Mime in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, and as Monostatos in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Opéra Saint-Étienne.He also performed the main role as Jack in Brokeback Mountain by Charles Wuorinen at the opera houses of Aachen and Salzburg.

Omvlee has also interpreted the role as Monostatos in The Magic Flute at the opera in Lille (2019) and Opéra national de Lorraine (2021).

Spring 2023 he will tour as Monostatos with Nederlandse Reisopera, before he sings the title role in Offenbach's Orpheus in the underworld with Opera Zuid.
