Nadine Weissmann
Mezzo-soprano Nadine Weissmann sings the role as Geneviève in the opera Pelléas and Mélisande here in Bergen autumn 2025.
Nadine Weissmann was born in Berlin, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and then at the University of Indiana in Bloomington under the guidance of Virginia Zeani. In 2006, she was awarded second prize and the Wagner Prize at the Francisco Viñas Competition and, in 2008, the “Orchestra Choice Award” at the International Wagner Competition in Seattle.
She made her professional debut at Osnabrück in 2002 singing the title role in Carmen before joining the troupe of the Weimar Theatre. She performed the role of Erda in Frank Castorf's complete Ring Cycle for the Bayreuth Festival between 2013 and 2017.
Her repertoire of roles includes among others Ježibaba in Rusalka, Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progres, Mrs Quickly in Falstaff, Herodias in Salome, Mary in The Flying Dutchman and and Maddalena in Rigoletto.
In 2017, she sung the role Geneviève in Pelléas et Mélisande at the Komische Oper in Berlin, and season 2022/23 she was Amneris in Aida at Theater Chemnitz. Spring 2023 she interpreted Cupidon (Cupid) in Orphée aux enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld) by Offenbach at Komische Oper Berlin. Both summer 2023 and 2024 she was Mary in The Flying Dutchman at Bayerische Festspiele.
