Steffen Aarfing

Danish set designer Steffen Aarfing often join forces with director Kasper Holten, and presents the set for The Merry Widow 2.0 in Grieghallen spring 2022.

Steffen Aarfing studied architecture at the danish Royal Academy of Arts, and did his first stage design in 1980. Since then, Steffen has designed numerous plays and operas as well as worked in the field of movie production design and theatre architecture.

Often in collaboration with Marie í Dali, he has designed several opera-productions with the director Kasper Holten, among them:

Verdi’s La Traviata in Stockholm, L’elisir d’Amore by Donizetti in Reykjavik, Le Grand Macabre by Ligeti, both in Copenhagen and at the San Francisco Opera, the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen in Copenhagen Opera, and, both in Vienna: Wolfgang Rihm’s Jakob Lenz and Giancarlo Menotti’s Goya.
