Debate cancelled: Based on advice from the health authorities linked to the coronavirus, BNO and the University in Bergen have cancelled the event.

Bergen National Opera partners with University of Bergen to present a powerful conversation between four global experts about the rise of extremism in today´s world. What kind of leaders do we need for the future who will rule with both authority and humanity?

We want to discuss these timeless issues with some of today's finest minds in advance of BNO's new production of Mozart's astonishing last opera La Clemenza di Tito - a highly topical story about violence and terrorism, the actions of a fanatical individual and the unexpected response from a mighty if conflicted emperor.

The panel brings together NRK's top former foreign correspondent Hans Wilhelm Steinfeld, UiB's Elisabeth Ivarsflaten, specialist in right wing politics, and the UK's Allan Little, BBC special correspondent and broadcaster. Rodula Gaitanou, young Greek director for La Clemenza di Tito also joins.

- Democratic principles and academic freedom are under pressure in many European countries. The wave of right-wing extremism we see today is disturbing, and in order to deal with it we must understand the political phenomenon. That is why UiB is so pleased about this collaboration with Bergen National Opera - together we combine cultural communication and academic knowledge - and focus on one of the most important topics of our time. Dag Rune Olsen, Rector of the University of Bergen
