Karen Kamensek

Karen Kamensek worked as musical director at several opera houses and has now a busy schedule as guest conductor.

Karen Kamensek was born in Chicago and studied conducting and piano at Indiana University. She cooperates closely with Philip Glass, and led the world premiere of his opera Orphée in 1993, as well as Les Enfants Terribles in 1996. Conducting Orphée at the Festival in Weikersheim with the Jeunesses Musicales was her European debut. Kamensek worked as musical director at several opera houses, among them the opera in Hannover 2011-2016, and has now a busy schedule as guest conductor. Autumn 2017 Kamensek led the world premiere of Dracula by Victoria Borisova-Ollas at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, and earlier in 2018 she conducted Carmen in Tel Aviv.
