Vuvu Mpofu

Vuvu Mpofu made her role debut as Cundegonde in Candide here in Bergen autumn 2018, and spring 2019 also debuted as Pamina at Opera North.

South African soprano Vuvu Mpofu was awarded the 3rd Prize at Placido Domingo’s OPERALIA competition in 2015 and the 2nd and Audience Prizes at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2016. She was a member of the Accademia Rossiniana, at the Rossini Opera Festival 2017, singing the role of Madama Cortese/ Il viaggio a Reims. Vuvu Mpofu made her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in June 2018 as a Blumenmädchen/Parsifal conducted by Kirill Petrenko. She reprised this role spring 2019, and also made her role debut for Opera North as Pamina/Die Zauberflöte.

Summer 2019 she sang at the Glyndebourne-festival as the First Nymph/Rusalka – and also as Gilda in the new production of Rigoletto, which also will be on tour in the autumn. In August she received the prestigious John Christie Award.

Mpofu made her role debut as Cunegonde in Bernstein's Candide autumn 2018 here at Bergen National Opera, and performed also at our Operafest at Terminus the same year.
